If you’re here for the first time, we’re delighted you found us. Please stay to explore our “Rural Commons.” It’s a vibrant place where we bring together issues, initiatives and investigations that matter to rural educators. Our website shines light on wonderful projects teachers and students are engaged in across rural British Columbia, and showcases rural research, events, and school profiles. We also provide links to other rural sites. Our video gallery contains films featuring educators, students and community members showing the special places in which they live and work. And we have archived many innovative learning resources in our teaching section.
Since 2009, I have been the Eleanor Rix Professor of Rural Teacher Education at the University of British Columbia, thanks to the generosity of the Rix Family Foundation. Along with colleagues from BC and elsewhere, I help prepare, recruit and support rural teachers. Coming from a rural background myself (for many years I taught kindergarten and primary classes in a community of 800 residents), I have loved traveling around our province, meeting exemplary educators everywhere. They share some of their work here. Have a look. Then tell us what you are doing!
